Abhaneri is a small village in the Dausa district of Rajasthan, India, located about 95 kilometers from Jaipur, the state capital. The village is famous for its ancient stepwell called Chand Baori, which is one of the largest and deepest stepwells in India.
Chand Baori was built in the 9th century AD by King Chanda of the Nikumbh Dynasty, and has 3,500 narrow steps arranged in a geometrical pattern, leading down to the water level at the bottom of the well. The stepwell is 20 meters deep and covers an area of 35 meters by 35 meters, and was used to collect rainwater for drinking, irrigation, and other purposes.
Apart from Chand Baori, Abhaneri is also home to several other historical monuments, including the Harshat Mata Temple, which is dedicated to the goddess of happiness and prosperity, and the ruins of the ancient city of Abhanagari.
